I bought the high priced Edson wheel brake kit for my Catalina 250. No instructions came with it. How do I get to the inside of the pedestal to install the wheel brake ? Some pictures would be great to have.

Try this site. You can find anything you want to know about Edson steering.

If you have the binnacle compass you will need to remove it to get to the place where the Edson directions help. The compass is held on by three screws around the perimeter of the compass. Once that is done yo will see three bolts that must be removed to remove the compass housing to get to the wheel shaft.

Before doing any of this take a piece of masking tape and attach it vertically up the steering pedestal. Then, using a razor, slice it at each component (pedestal, compass, pedestal guard bracket if you have one). This way, when you put it all back together you are ensured that the pieces, especially the compass, are aligned.

Thanks guys ! Those two responses provided just what I needed. I was reluctant to just start removing screws without knowing anything about what I might be letting loose.

I recently contacted Edson regarding a steering cable issue. They were very helpful and most accommodating. I e-mailed back and forth with Edson customer service rep Ken Martin at this e-mail address:
