I was at the Miami Show about 40 years ago, and I have been looking forward to a return visit this year. Several comments on the Cruising Forum suggest that it may not be worth the trouble and expense of the trip from Destin. A little follow-up would be helpful. Part of the problem is that we are planing a trip for the shuttle launch on Feb 7 (lot of variables there), and coming down to Miami would extend the trip to a week of hotels and eating out - at least a boat unit. Its a lot farther from the western panhandle to Miami than many non-floridians realize.

I've never been to the Miami boat show and hopefully it will be great and the weather will improve.
Now the shuttle launch is a thing of beauty! Enjoy that - a lot. I saw one from the plane one day - holy cow - what a spectacle even from very far away! Just watch out for falling booster rockets.
This will be my second launch and my wife"s first, if it goes on or near its schedule. The launch is a definite trip; the boat show is the iffy part. Its a very long drive back to the condo for two days, then turn around for a 700+ mile drive back to Miami or spend a $1000 to $1500 for a week on the road in south Fl away from the paid for condo and Pearl.
We are also heading for the launch. We are going to the Strictly Sail in Chicago and then heading for Florida. Hope to be there for 3 weeks. Hope it gets warmer
The Miami Strictly Sail show has changed this year, it appears that the sail part of the Miami International Boat Show is now split into two zones (sketchy info right now). It looks as though the primary sail part going to be north of the bridge instead of at bayfront.
We're torn about going even though it's only just over an hour away.
We have been tightening the belt a lot recently, and going to the boat show is over a boat unit when you count fuel, tickets, lunch but not including the inevitable 'Oh gotta have one of those!'
The snag is that I really enjoy going to the shows. Not in the market for a 'new' boat, and the older boats that the brokers have on display are way out of my dream pipe.
Perhaps the warm weather will improve the conditions (hospitals are hurting right now for lack of patients (no pun intended))
The strictly sail website sucks, the vendor list tells us nothing and if you follow the sailboat links, a lot of the results are power stuff.(PWC etc.)
It's a couple of weeks away yet, so things might improve ... ever the optimistic one.
If we do go, it will be either the Friday or Saturday (but even that could change as hospital rosters change often.)
SV Lysistrata hopes to be in the neighborhood for the Miami show. Numerous complications has kept us tied to a dock for way too long! I think we will aim to do the show on Saturday so we can do the Lats & Atts cruisers party.
Initially I had planned on touching base with Paul and maybe going to the Miami show but after reading that same thread I nixed the idea. Now the Shuttle I plan on seeing. Of course I always have the opportunity to in Daytona but I'm going to take Bamboo down via the ICW. Have never done that. It's a night launch and should be fantastic.
