I noticed the other thread about sail magazine, but thought this question belongs in its own thread.
What sailing magazines do you subscribe to and why? What would you recommend?
I subscribe to Cruising World and Practical Sailor.
I accidently subscribed to Cruising World in the first place (miscommunication with the Admiral on that - clearly my fault :) But I have ended up njoying the magazine so I'll keep reading it. I find the articles interesting and informative - depending on the author. The boat reviews are a little panglossian, but I still read them.
Practical Sailor is great, I just wish their website worked a little better - I find it very confusing to do research in. But the material is fantastic.
I hope to find some great new magazines to read...

Practical Sailor -- and I agree with you about their web site. Good Old Boat -- a favorite for years although they seem to be losing some of their focus/sharpness. Sail -- it is very inexpensive and reminds me of what the other (racing) sailors do. I also like Mainsheet -- some of the stories are interesting. In the east we also have small monthly newspaper type publications "Points East" from Maine and "Windcheck" -- interesting but local.
Is their an inclusive list of publications -- regional or not?
Currently subscribe to Sail, Sailing, Wooden Boat Magazine, Practical sailor and Good Old Boat. Geesh....looking at the list, too many !
I like sailing. It oftentimes has an article on an older sailboat. They had an issue a couple of years ago with I believe two articles featuring the Catalina 25s. I also like Good Old Boat and The Wooden Boat Magazine. I like the new projects and the improvement projects.
Practical Sailor, Good Old Boat, and Cruising world, but CW, as it has aged over the last 30 years, has gravitated to moneyed end of the spectrum. I used to read it cover to cover, but now I probably read half of it. I'll probably drop it at some point, but they do usually have one or two articles relevant to me
Soundings--more of a large-format "boating" mag than a "sailing" mag, but it has news of what's happening on the water--technology, USCG activities, government activities,... Informative and well-written. When the coasties rescue somebody or run into a ferry , you can find out about it in Soundings. I suspect it's only an east coast publication--I get the Long Island Sound edition, and don't know what other editions they have.
I used to get several magazines, but now only get Sail. Sail's been much more attentive lately to more humble boats (like ours), and the price is ridiculously low. I got GOB for years, but found that it, like all hobby magazines, got repetitive after a while. The reason why new boat reviews are Panglossian (wow - that's not an adjective one finds often online!) is that the magazines depend on advertising. Except Practical Sailor, which I also got for a while but 80% of their reviews didn't apply to anything on a C25. Fortunately, I can walk to a Barnes and Noble, so I can read or buy any of the other magazines if they have something interesting in them.
