Planning on purchasing unit for "Brandy" before launch and installing with boat at slip. For those of you who have done this is there any drilling etc involved or does it just assemble as delivered. THANX
Don't know about Garhauer but our Boomkicker might have required one drill/bolt hole on the boom. Very easy install and we love the Boomkicker. There is a specific C250 Boomkicker model. Ours is the K0750 although the site now lists the C250 as getting model 800.
Here is the Boomkicker site and it includes installation directions.
When we got ours it came with a special fitting (K0750 Roll Stop Fitting) to stop the boom from rotating. I see that they now say it isn't required for boats under 30' but they also say to contact them if your boom rotates (and ours do). That additional piece of equipment was easy to install.
(a) Why you're putting a rigid boom vang on your boat? (b) Why specifically the Garhauer? (c) the specifics of the purchase: vendor, price, etc.
By the way, I had the Boomkicker (semi-rigid) on my C-250, but we're not all that happy with it. We removed it, but we're thinking about a rigid vang (like the Garhauer).
Yesterday I took the boat out for 7 hours of sailing. A day you always wish for. Mostly sunny, 75 and a 10k breeze. It was the shakedown for the new Boomkicker. I love the simplicity it ads for single handed sailing. This boat gets better every year! Although some don't like the lack of support as a handhold, the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages IMHO. My only suggestion is to clip the boom to the backstay when motoring, large boat waves can turn the boom into a bat.

Here you can see the Boomkicker arching near the mast, well out of the way of the poptop enclosure.
Did you buy your boomkicker from the web site you posted or did you get it somewhere else? It looks like a real sweet addition for simplifying taking the main down.
