hi gang,

I need to know the measurement from the bottom of the keel to the bottom of the hull on a fin keel model. Not to the keel stub, but to the bottom of the boat.

If the waterline draft is 4 feet, wouldn't the depth from the bottom of the boat to the bottom of the keel be something less than 4 feet?

Here is a picture, from the photo section of the forum, showing the dimention I'm looking for. I downloaded it and added the white lines in Corel.

I hope Tweety's owner doesn't mind me using his picture. It's a very good keel shot.

Tweety is a cool looking boat.

Thanks,

Paul

Paul,
Set up a simple ratio problem Your height on photo is to the keel in photo as your actual height is to actual keel

Example say you are 6 feet even in the photo you are (OK I have a metric ruler here, but units will cancel out) 4.7 cm the keel is 1.8 cm

6 is to X
as
4.7 is to 1.8

6 * 1.8 = 10.8

10.8 / 4.7 = 2.3 about 2' 4"

That sound about right?

Paul, if you can wait until tomorrow morning, I'll have a direct measurement for you. My boat is on-the-hard - I'll just go down and measure it (bottom of the keel to the hull).

Watch for it tomorrow am, unless someone else posts a direct measurement prior to this. (not to discount your proportion/ratio calculation Matt ! ! )

I was going to tell him to do the same thing based on LOA of the boat in the photo....

Thanks guys,

Jm, I appreciate you taking the time to do a direct measurement for me.

My Algebra stinks.

I have a Catalina 250 wing keel trailer. The bunks are a lot higher up than on my old C-25 wing keel trailer.

I'm trying to figure out how much adjustment will be needed if I get a fin keel boat.

This helps a lot.

Thanks to all of you.<img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
