Jay, To prevent it, the centerboard probably needs shimming, out of the water job. In the meantime try dropping the centerboard down part way and see if it stops the slapping.
Jay, I had the same issue a while back and bought a shim kit..I think from Catalina Direct although I didn't see it on their website just now. I was surprised when it arrived to see that the shims were not made to be placed around the pivot, but epoxied to the front of the centerboard ahead of the pivot. I augmented my repair with a couple of large teflon washers that I placed on the pivot. They were hard to find although I finally got them at a Pool and Spa store. Good Luck! Willy
