Seems hull 181 has very loose sail slugs.. tend to get cockeyed when first feeding the main.
Haven't been able to accurately measure. Mast is anodized with about a 6 inch long slot about 6 inches above the boom. Mast also has 8 tapped holes in that area. Any idea what went there?
Back to original question.. anyone know what size sail slugs work?

Not sure of the sail slug size. Most of them I have seen using a bolt rope, not slides. I know some of the big boats use a mast gate designed to keep the slides (slugs) in the mast track. The eight tapped holes could be designed to hold the two plates of the gate in place. Just a hunch. Not seen them on a Capri.

Same here, I use bolt rope. Pretty sure you have an aftermarket alteration and I agree with Andy_334. the holes around the feed slot is probably for a gate or plate to hold the sail slugs in when dropping the sail. The sail slugs should be close to the size of your bolt rope. Mine were 5/16" to 11/32". Of course this assumes you have a stock mast.

I'm running slugs on both my cruising main and racing main. They are nylon, part #23308 from Sailrite.com. They are called 1/2" slugs and the actual diameter of the slug is 0.45".

On way home from airport stopped at West M and bought 2 of the 1/2 inch slugs that measure .42" for $6.50 each. I will try them in the morning. My hunch is that indeed originally there was a bolt rope and that these will make sail hoisting much easier than the present 5/16 slugs.
I probably need 15 or so. The West are what I would take offshore. The plastic sailrite should suffice for lake racing.. Thanks for the info.
I do expect the holes were for original gate to feed the main with bolt rope up the mast.

Confirmed today with West M parts that the correct sail slugs for my capri 25 hull 181 are 1/2 inch. Since I am not planning any open water, I will get the suggested nylon slugs. Obviously the mast was built for bolt rope and prior owner converted to sail 1/4 inch sail slugs, which tend to jam.
Thanks to all

Due to the way that my sail slugs are attached, the sailrite 23308 would not fit. I have 22 if anyone wants. Have now ordered the 1/2 inch slugs with metal, part 67511.
