Okay so I am getting some conflicting information. Catalina Direct told me on the phone that the HDPE rudder is not class legal for the 25. Then Idasailor (who makes that rudder for Catalina Direct) said it was... so I called Catalina direct back and someone told me that they do not know... they said it was NOT for the 22 but not sure for the 25.

I don't see anything else you can order. There's nothing in our rules, as far as I can tell, that reference the material of a rudder. I'm assuming that you want to participate in the Chandler's/Bay View races as they are closer than the RCYC races.

Here are the rules from the Bay View site:

Good news - the class rules are right on this site (click on Bylaws on the left). This only applies to racing in something like our Nationals - all other mods for local racing must be declared to your local PHRF committee.

From the class rules:

B. RUDDER

1. Rudders shall be made from a mold commercially available to all competitors. (Rudders manufactured for C-25s by Catalina Yachts or elsewhere prior to the publication and association approval of these rules are considered to be approved. In the case where the rudders are obviously different from those now being manufactured, proof of origin may be required.)

2. Changes to the rudder to affect weight distribution will not be allowed.

3. Beaching rudders will be allowed provided they comply with B-1.

4. For the period beginning October 1, 2005 through October 1, 2008 when racing in a race governed by these class rules (as indicated in the Sailing Instructions or Notice of Race) all rudders that are not original equipment must be declared on the racing application.

These rules were put in when I was Commodore and Duane Wolf was VC. We rewrote all bylaws and class rules (well, Duane did). The intent was to allow the standard, balanced, and HPDE and Idasailor rudders.

Hi Darren, Sorry for the delayed response (am watching Lebron play his last game in a Cavs jersey...hey, just kidding!)

I'm usually passing everyone during the beer can races, but I'm also going the wrong way...

I must say, once I experienced the new rudder...let's just say it was like going from a 60's VW bug to a Lexus (pick one).

You will get great advice on here from Jim and others who know the ins and outs of racing rules.
