So Saturday I finally spent a day doing nothing but working on the boat. I needed to add a switch to my stereo because if there was electric to it a display light stayed on, so until Saturday every time I left the boat I took the positive battery connection off. Very much a pain. project accomplished. Also about 8 months ago I bought a friend's Humminbird 363 GPS Chartplotter and then a duel jointed swing arm to mount it in the companionway. project accomplished. It felt really good to get some stuff done and I really enjoyed the time spent.
On Sunday Peggy and I decided to sail for a few hours in the morning. Gorgeous day, 5 to 15 winds, and I'll be a son of a gun if that boat didn't sail just a little bit better with a few projects completed! I can't wait till next week when I have her hauled and the bottom painted!

Congratulations Dave on that. Feels good to get some of your to-do task list items done.

I have a stereo with a light that stays on if I don't disconnect it from the circuit. On my unit, there are two +12V leads, apparently one for power and one for memory. The power lead takes about 1/2 an Amp even if the radio is turned off, while the memory lead takes approx 10 mA, which should have negligible effect on the battery.

When I permanently install it, I plan to keep the memory line directly connected (through a 1 Amp inline fuse) but switch the main power connection using a separate on/off switch like yours, plus a 10A fuse in the switch panel.

The memory line keeps the pre-sets, audio settings and preferences in the radio. If you completely disconnect it, every time you turn the radio on, you have to re-set your favorite stations, your EQ tone settings, left-right balance, front-back fade and subwoofer level.

Not a big deal, but a pain.

Yep Bruce, exactly my problem, but a small toggle switch mounted on my outer semi-waterproof box solved that.
