Hi All We just acquired a 1982 25 and love her so far. Of course as most boats are it has been a lot of work up front! Complete epoxy bottom job, rebedding everything through the deck/hull, cleaning, new halyards etc etc! All good stuff that nothing but money wont solve......was told ages ago that for someone that doesnt own a boat this description should give them an idea.....owning a boat is like putting on all of your clothes, stand in the shower, turn it to cold and full blast and quickly rip up 100 dollar bills......gotta love 'em!
David P asked me to share some of my cruising stories with the board here. Would love to.
When I was 13 parents sold the business, house, cars gave the dogs away and bought a 43' Hans Christian to go sail on. Well, going sailing ended up being a 6 year, 50,000 mile, 47 country circumnavigation. It was the four of us, my younger brother and parents on the boat. It was an amazing time and gave my brother and I a great world education. We saw everything from terrible storms, beautiful locales, crazy government officials to the selling of the boat. I usually dont like bragging about the trip as most non boating people it goes right over their heads. But I figure here is a good place to discuss and it would be appreciated.
Gotta run now....

Andy, good story. It says a lot for our little boats that someone with substantially more experience than most would choose one for his own. There's a wealth of experience here for help with the details on all those little projects you mentioned.
Yes it was the trip of a life time so to speak. There were a couple storms that gave us a run for our money other than that it was a complete blast. After the first storm we had all others were pretty much a cake walk! Some of them even fun. We were fortunate to be able to take our time and go where we wanted to go and spend as much time as we wanted. We were 3 months in Venezuela, a month in the Galapagos, 6 months in French Polynesia, 6 months in New Zealand, a year in Australia, etc. I used to know a few words in a lot of languages but have lost most of it unfortunately! Still have friends all over the place.
It was a very educational trip! We saw some pretty amazing things...... One of the more challenging storms(not the worst) was off the coast of Columbia going from Venezuela to Panama. This thing came up quickly. We were sailing with several other boats so it was comforting talking to the other folks. We ended up on a broad reach for a day and a half with 45 to 50 knots of wind and 20 foot seas. At first we were pretty apprehensive because of a storm we had experienced earlier in our trip. After we decided it wasnt going to build any more we settled in for a slay ride. It was one were you have time to get proper sails up(or down) and trimmed right. We were surfing these monsters and this 18 ton boat would get up and surf! This was the fastest we ever went topping out at 13.9 knots! And yes the rudder on even this girl would hum at those speeds! It finally blew out and we pulled into the beautiful San Blas Islands off of Panama and had a great time there.
One of the other boats we were traveling with surfed down the face of one of those and ran smack into a whale! No boat damage(and it was a boat that he had built by hand in Czechoslovakia) but he said the water was red with blood.
