My wife and I are looking at purchasing a Catalina 250 before the end of the year. I have read how to strap launch, but would like to witness the manouver in person. Does the forum think a dealer such as River City Sailing, OR could demonstrate? Or would someone in the forum be willing to show us? We live in the Kingston, WA (Central Puget Sound) but are willing to travel to British Columbia or Oregon.
Thank you,

How soon do you need to see it? We will likely be pulling our boat in early August (for a San Juans cruise)and could demo the whole operation for you. We are in Eugene, Oregon.
To save you the trip I can describe in detail the steps and can show photos of the specialized setup we have that makes it easy to do. Note that "easy" is relative. If you intend to day sail the boat (no slip) then I would not choose the wing keel version.
The key to strap launching a C250WK is a long ramp, preferably with a parallel dock.
I'd be happy to talk to you on the phone about it too.
I'd have to agree with Randy, daysailing a WK is not worth the hassle. Expect to take two hours to launch, and two and a half to recover. That's effectively five hours out of your day that have little to do with sailing. We did it about half a dozen times, and found a marina. Much nicer to step onto a fully rigged boat, cast off and go.
We're much closer to you than Randy, and I'm willing to walk you through the steps without doing an actual launch if you like. We're going to be launching from a crane in a yard this year, not our normal strap launch. I can show you the gear and procedures we use to make it safe and easier.
We live in Duvall, so it's a bit of a drive to get here, 90 minutes or so but it might be worth your time. I'm also willing to talk to you over the phone about it if you like, and share our checklist we use for doing it.
I'm also willing to take you sailing once we're back in the water if you'd like to sail a WK before you buy one.
