Does anyone know where the inside access is to the upper rudder mount? We're having the boat painted and need to remove it. We got to the lower mount in the quarter berth, but couldn't figure out how to access the upper one.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Care to elaborate on your reasons for painting the hull? Most of us would caution against that under most circumstances, but we're always willing to listen, discuss, debate, argue...
Champ You think you can get to it from the inside? That would be good. I will have to look at that next time I am on the boat.
I have been having the problem of my lower rudder mount pin slipping off the gudgeon at the worst times. I am not sure if it is bent down or exactly what is going on but I have to look at it.

One of the two pintles should have a hole for a pin or a ring to go through it and keep this from happening. Without it, even a moderate swell while going downwind will push it up and out of the gudgeon.
As I mentioned before, the access is tight back there. I'm about 80% certain we could reach it. That was on a '78.
I removed mine. It is a very tight fit but I got mine off. Getting the new one on was a different kettle of fish. I ground the old gudgeon flat. I welded 3, 5/16" nuts to the old gudgeon and fished it up inside using 1/4" line. Then I bolted the new upgraded gudgeon to it from the outside. Worked like a charm. I have some backing plates if you want them. Dan
