Merrick,
We just got back 5 days ago from two weeks in the BVI. Perhaps I saw you. I was in a Moorings boat named, "White Rabbit."
You?

We were in a boat named "Olivera", a Beneteau 343. Had some pretty exciting sails in the brisk winds last week. We were between Road Town and Virgin Gorda the first part of the week Then over to Jost Van Dyke, and Norman Isl. Have you been to the BVI before? Got to be one of the best sailing areas anywhere.

couple BVI shots...quiet anchorage and lively sail-
we learned that autopilots are great to have on a long sail!

did somebody mention Cuba?
Sounds good to me. Just as soon as the Castro brothers go away.

We did a week in April down in the BVI. Fantastic experience. We're going back again in January.
We chartered through Conch Charters. They were fantastic to deal with. They're a second-tier charter company, so you save a lot on the boat cost. Our boat was in perfect condition and very well maintained. http://www.conchcharters.com
My ASA instructor recommended them - he does an annual trip down to the BVI with family and friends, and has tried several of the companies, but settled on Conch.
I think the Moorings/Sunsail base is nicer, but the reality is you don't want to be paying for a nice base - you want to get on the boat and be sailing the entire week :)

Oh, and checkout was simple. I submitted my resume, but when I got there they did a boat walk-through to orient me to the boat. When they see by your questions that you know what you're doing, they really don't worry about it. The BVI is ideal sailing - I've seen a lot more challenging conditions out on the lake here.
20 mph winds from a constant direction all day long? A dream to sail in.

Amen! A perpetual power source; just throw up a sail and away you go. What a place!
Man, I really need to stay away from this thread. I just felt my motivation at work drop.
