I am in desperate need of a flip up rudder. I am too cheap to buy a new one (thus far). I do not have a need for the original so that can be included in the deal. I live on the western basin of Lake Erie and will travel reasonable distances to do the swap. The rudder I currently have is in great shape the problem is, I live on a canal and the low water this year is giving me fits.
Thanks
Jake

I would hate to say "yes" and mis-represent what I have. The rudder I have does have a portion that extend forward of the plane of the stern. If there is a genuine interest I can investigate the matter further. Maybe I can sell what I have and have a decent down payment on a new one. Is there any value to a fixed rudder like mine?
Are there any cracks or delamination (separation of the outer skin at the edges)? My rudder is still in good condition, but I am interested in the newer style. I'll try to post a pic of mine in the next few days and you can tell me if yours is the same or different. Idasailor sells a flip-up rudder and CD sells replacement rudders, but I think they are also made by Idasailor.
I found the listing from where I purchased the boat in 2008 this line Item confirms your original assertion.
-"Balanced rudder, improved from the original with biaxial glass and carbon fiber."
The original owner was Greg Jackson "Compass Rose” If you do a search on this site you can find notes on many of the improvements we enjoy with this vessel.
I am still looking to swap. Sailing season is once again upon us. I have confirmed that the rudder is in fact a balance rudder that has been further improved by the previous owner with fiberglass and carbon fiber. The previous owner was a mechanical engineer with penchant for perfection I have little doubt this rudder is better than most.
David - I did not receive it. I am not sure how to check my e-mail on the forum. I am mostly a lurk and learn on this forum. Any info on how to accomplish this would be appreciated.
Ha Ha! Nothing like keeping a 2 year old thread alive. sorry to hear about you sale dmpilc, maybe I'm patient or unmotivated one of these years one might pop up. haAh
