It finally happened the keel cable broke and has damaged the trunk. I have the trunk damage under control but need to get the keel up in order to get the boat out the water for more permanent repairs. Without hiring a scuba diver does anyone have any ideas. By the way, keel cable was brand new this season purchased from catalina Yacht
Sorry to hear. That happened to us earlier this summer. We tried a few things to get the keel up but nothing worked very well. We ended up having to use a Travelift to pull us out and set us down on our trailer from above.
Where did the cable break? Peculiar that it was a new cable... Ours broke at the keel fitting.
When my cable let go it was the lifting mechanism that gave way not the cable. I ordered the new heavier duty lifting mechanism from CD. To get the keel up high enough to get the boat into the sling of th travel lift, we used two docks tied to gether and walked them back from the bow to get them under the lowest part of the keel. We then tied off one end to a winch and the other end we wrapped around the other winch and slowly winched the keel up.
I think if you raise the keel part way up with the winch, you can probably drag it on the trailer with a little effort. I think Jan did that if you search for previous keel cable threads.
