Well, the deed is done. The boat is listed. I'm excited about my new boat - a 2002 Island Packet 350 - but I must admit that I still feel sad to see this wonderful boat go on the market. As people in this forum know, she is generously outfitted for coastal cruising and was sailed HARD for two years in this way. I have listed her with a broker in Oriental, where I'll be moving her. This spring I sailed Windsong out of Oriental, and she was the PERFECT boat for the Pamlico, so my theory is that she will perhaps find someone looking for an almost-new boat that has all the upgrades (and then some) that a person could want. My hope is that someone who wants to explore and enjoy the Pamlico will see her for what she is: a ready-to-go, shoal draft, single-handing, fun machine. Just cast off and raise the sails. Michael,

Congrats on your new boat! I have always drooled over Island Packets. It will be a great boat for you since you like to spend time in the open ocean. What was "hard sailing" for your C250 should be easy cruising for an IP350.

Mike, that IP 350 is one beautiful boat. I was looking at one online for sale. I know they are very pricey as I looked at one years ago but I think it was a 27'. I was very impressed. Unfortunately, it would not fit in my slip. Does yours have the in mast furling main? Best of luck. I know you will have many years to enjoy her.

Thanks, and yes, I agree, the IP will be more suitable for the ocean sailing I am doing. As a family, we really want to do some of the east coast ocean rallies, which of course necessitated a bigger boat. I'm bringing the new boat down from Milford, CT next month. Weather permitting we'll go offshore. Should be fun going thru Hell's Gate, down the East River and out into the Atlantic.
Yes, it (s/v Remittance) has in-mast roller furling. The admiral is thrilled. I prefer a fully-battened main, but if it makes it easier for her to sail, then I'm all for it. As for racing - not on this boat! I'll be crewing up on someone else's boat for the Saturday races.

Michael, have I got a deal for you...

I'll trade you my C-25 for the IP. That way you will have 50 feet of boat (and I will have to settle for 35, but I'll be OK) You will also be able to compare and extoll the differences and virtues of the 25 foot line of Catalina boats.

From here it looks like a win-win. Whaddaya say?
