Alright, I have made a tough decision to sell my catalina. It is just too big of a boat for me to drag in and out of the water every weekend. I plan to downsize to a catalina 22. I bought the boat and the trailer seperately. I modified the trailer and everything looks good. The trailer will need new tires before it is taken on any long trips. I only bought the trailer to save me wet slip fees. The boat sits at my sailing club 20ft from the water on the trailer. This decision has been an extremely hard one to make. I have a total of $4500 in the boat and trailer. Anyone interested in trading for a 22? The boat must be in great condition and have a trailer. If I sell it, I will most likely ask for more because, to be honest, I got it for a steal.
"...boat sits at my sailing club 20 ft from the water..." Assuming you don't have to take down the mast, all you are having to do is launch and retrieve. If you have the tow vehicle for it, seems to me that part of it is not that much more work than it would be with a C-22. (I've got both boats now.) Are there other issues, like racing or traveling to other lakes, etc?
The mast is left up. I have a v8 tundra, so it pulls it ok. It just feels like a lot of work to launch and take out every weekend. It makes me extremely nervous doing it and I am usually doing it by myself. I am coming from an 18.5 hunter and a catalina 22 just seems like it would be similiar to that. Yes, I do want to take it down south this summer and trailering a 25 sounds horrible. I am in Birmingham, Alabama, by the way...
I'll agree it is a lot of boat to launch and retrieve solo. I could not do it and stay dry, but I have a fin keel trailer and strap launch. Which lake do you sail?
Yup--the C-25 is not a "trailer sailer" and the C-22 is. There's a boat out there for every need.
I would sell to the best buyer (who might be moving up from a Hobie 16) and then separately look for the best C-22. I think you'll do better with both.
I'm in Atlanta with a Cat 22 with trailer and interest in your deal. I believe it is an '80. I have been working on it for the last couple of years and at least for a while, it was the best looking boat in the marina. In 2009, I reworked/painted everything above the water line. I was too busy to do the bottom this summer.
I've set it up for single hand sailing but only manage to get out a couple of times per month when there is wind. The boat is at Harbortown Marina in a slip on Lake Allatoona.
If you are still interested, let me know and I'll get you some contact info.
