Voyagers issues with his anchor light reminded me of an issue I found this summer with my stern light. When I covered the boat for winter I noted there was close to 0.5" water inside the light fixture (standard Series 25...). I really don't know the source of the water but my question is should I be concerned enough to try to stop it from happening again?
You could replace the whole unit to get something with a proper seal (hopefully), or you could drill a tiny hole in the bottom. (I did this on my horn.)
Might be coming in the hole in the back where the wires go into the light. I know these aren't sealed because I can see the light coming out that hole at night when my lights are on. I had to plug the bow light because it was bright enough that it reduced my night vision looking forward.
I bought new lights and could not get them to seal or drain. Leaned then forward and back and drilled a hole in the bottom. Still held water. Finally i polysulfided the upper parts of the fixture. Caulked it up. Ive done this with clear silicone on previous boat nav lights. Caulk smeared in the lens to fixture junctions on the upper sections. They held up well.
