I received a postcard last week regarding free sail evaluation and winter storage from the local XYZ sail loft. Being somewhat skeptical, but nonetheless running out of room in the attic to put my sails for the winter, I brought my 7 sails into the loft this afternoon and received an honest evaluation on each of them without the pressure to buy anything new. We took a look at each of my sails and walked out with a $10 bill for a small stiching repair that I probably wouldn't have noticed until it would have been a 600 dollar new sail replacement. And a place to store my sails for the winter...insured I might add!!! I have since come to find out that most lofts, major and independent, offer this service.
With the recent Loft misrepresentation I wanted to point out some guys still operate with integrity...And, point out that the winter, for those of us that have a winter, is a good opportunity to inspect our sails and other big ticket items on our boats, (even if you do it yourself). Checking the stitching, the slug attachments, battens, any small lines like the leech and foot lines, kringles etc for wear and tear now, can save you $$$$ in the future.
