I have to stop buying these. Its like an addiction...
Here's teh scoop, If you use a butane stove, these lanterns use the same fuel cartridge adn throw an AMAZING amount of heat and light. Uses a cloth mantle (like a coleman lantern).
Lighting is through a piezo igniter, so its basically a click and woosh! Instant light. Little feet on the bottom pop out for stability, the bale is good to hang it as long as you have a decent length of chain on it, and not close to anythign flammable. Its great for drying out teh boat after a wet day of sailing, and saves on the batteries. No priming or pumping, and the mantles have survived well for me. Stores nicely on the pinrail behind the head.
I am now up to 4 of these. I keep grabbing them like its some OCD reaction to a cool toy. I have to get rid of one before SWMBO finds out I got another one this past weekend.
I wish I could randy. Sadly the extra I had is gone, and I just have enough for my needs now. I haven't seen a grill, but was thinking about a heat the other day as well. I'll let you know if I find a source. We may have to make a trip to Europe or something.
I checked the "full price" sticker on my new lantern today and it is supposed to cost $56.00 retail (I got it on sale for a lot better though - I think around $40) so although th ebutane stuff is neater-n-kitty litter, don't expect all of it to retail for $20 like the stove.
I stopped in a Wal-Mart on the way home tonight and htey had their camping stuff out. They are seeling the butane stoves and cannisters, but nothing else.
yeah Dave, propane gizmos are easy to find, for some reason, butane stuff is a lot harder. The lantern you are getting has an adaptor that allows it to run off either the tall cannisters that go in teh stoves, or off teh smaller cannisters that some of teh coleman stuff runs on - the butane stuff - not the propane.
I would love to get a grill and heater so I can get rid of the stubby bottles of propane and go to all butane. I find the cannisters a lot easier to work with and to store onboard. The lanterns are a good start because they throw some heat.
