This looks pretty cool.

If in mobile range: it provids a bundle of cool options. We'll be trying it out on land over the next couple of days.

To get it for your Android: On your phone, visit the marketplace and search for boatus.

Looks very cool at first peek.

Paul,
What does it do?
I'm looking for a replacement for the tide charts I had on the Palm Pilot.

<i>Follow up.</i>
I see that the BoatUS app could be a saftey feature with call for towing.
It doesn't seem to do tide charts.
The Palm tide app I mentioned above was "Tide Tool".
An amazing tide "tool" that had 100's of ports, in both graph and text modes also it had sun rise, sun set times and moon phases.
I found "TideApp" for android but some of the comments said they experienced freezes and had to uninstall.
Anyone seen an android tide chart and worked with it?</font id="navy"></font id="size2"></font id="Comic Sans MS">

John, BoatUS App seems to have 3 Main features:
Share your location:
Email your location to a friend. It fires up your android email app (Mine's GMail) and populates the body of the email with a URL to google maps with your position.

Text your location to a friend. Same thing via a text msg (of course, if the phone is not smart enough then.... :(

Call BoatUS for a tow (trailer too from what I have read so far.) When the boatus contact is made, they know your GPS location. Apparently, that is currently a considerable problem that the App overcomes. Lots of folks that contact Boatus don't know where they are!

And finally a BoatUS Directory.
That covers:
.. Insurance Quote
.. 24 Hour claims service
.. Join/renew Boatus membership
.. Foundation for boating safety (contact)
.. BoatUS News - Press room page opens in browser.

So I don't think it will help for tides.
However, I do have 'TideApp' as well. That let's me look up the tide by location and date, use it all the time. I have several favorites setup so that I can quickly see the tide table. I can view the tide data or tide table.
eg. Right now the data tells me...
Current Tide: -0.29 Feet
2011-1-21
.. 6:08 AM EST -0.42 feet Low Tide
.. 7.07 AM EST Sunrise
.. 8:15 AM EST Moonset
.. 11:42 AM EST 1.68 feet High Tide
.. 5:56 PM EST Sunset
.. 6:36 PM EST -0.32 feet Low Tide
.. 8:11 PM EST Moonrise

based upon Billy's point (south east corner of Biscayne Bay)

Droid...

Ya gotta know they've gotta about a million of those geeks out there working on apps.. given the os is signing on upwards of 250,000 users a day.

Great till it bloats.. Anyhoo.. looks like a great emergency app to show where you are. I'm sure there are many others in some form or another..... (if you have cell/wifi service )

Strange new world...

If you use the boatus app to send your position, the recipient gets an email that includes a link like this one.(only it's the url not a text link)
