The ultimate frustration. I bought the wrong color bottom paint from Jamestown Distributors. I have a gallon of NEW, opened ONLY once, and untouched Pettit Vivid Antifouling paint in red. It's really red. I don't know what I was thinking. I was waffling between this and Interlux's deeper red and bought this one because it was $10 cheaper at the time. I simply won't look good with the dark navy on our topsides.
So, Ive ordered the paint I should have bought the first time and I'd like to sell this one. I'd ship it out tomorrow for $80 plus shipping. If you have any questions, or want to see pictures, feel free to email me at joshmccullock (at) gmail dot com. Name a fair price and we'll make a deal. Oh yea, I take credit cards too. Perk of self employment!
Use the red for your bottom coat. Then put your desired color on top. That will give you an easy-to-see marker when the top coat gets thin. Others on this forum have recommended this procedure.
You can check Interlux's site--they have compatibility charts. However, be aware that Petit's Vivid colors are indeed vivid--that's the point. Ordinary "red" is rust--Vivid red is RED. However, I wouldn't recommend dark red on bright red as a "signal coat" strategy... The colors change and fade, and red-on-red might not be very distinguishable. Sarge's bottom is (rusty) red, and her signal color is black.
