I just ordered plans for a Spindrift 11 sloop designed by B&B Yachts. I already have a roto-mold monstrosity with a cat rig, so I figured this will be where the kids learn two sails. And if the winds blow right someday it will be the tender to the big sailboat. I started a blog about the build (see sig).
Good luck with building your sailboat/tender. I would sometime like to try my hand at building a small sailboat but I also realize that even a small sailboat can turn into a big and long term project. I don't think I have it in me to start from scratch with just plans. Even if in ordered a kit, it is still a project that i am concerned other endeavors at home would make it a lower priority with risk of procrastinating and never completing the project. There are some kit builders that also offer classes that get you thru 7o% of the construction and so...I have considered that approach as well. The sailboats that i was interested in were Shell Boats - Lucky 13 kit or Chesapeake LightCraft Skerry (Kit/1 week class). I have gone as far as buying the Shell Boats CD video for construction method but right now no plans to move forward with any project. Maybe, if I had a friend that was also interested in starting one of these projects, that may push me into it (ie. Take Chesapeake Light Craft - Skerry Class).
