I have a cover over my cockpit and cabin which is in three pieces which zip together. I like this arrangement because I can remove the middle section for easier movement around the cockpit (I'm 6'1") and still have shade at the tiller and over the cabin. It appears to have been custom made, and now it is sagging in the middle and getting old. I had my local sailmaker (in Oriental NC) give me an estimate for a replacement and he came in at $1800. Does that sound reasonable? Thanks.

Three panels of canvas, maybe four sewn pockets for the frame, and two zippers? Sounds pretty high for just the canvas work (assuming the frame is OK). Do you have a canvas shop that might want the work more than a sailmaker? (Everyone's getting busy just about now.)
Is it Inner Banks you talked to? They are a great sail loft but not the cheapest. There are a number of canvas shops around Pamlico county. When we had to re-canvas Enka we got what we needed from SailRite and sewed it ourselves. You should check that option too.
