So Monday morning I called Catalina to order a new keel cable, turning ball, pins. Receptionist transfers me to Ken's voice mail, it says leave message with phone number and so on, which I do. No return call on Monday, No return call on Tuesday. Wednesday I call back, I actually talk to Ken, tell him what I need, he says he will have to check for parts and call back. Thursday afternoon still no information, so I email him and reiterate what I need. He reads email at about 1:00pm. It is now Friday afternoon, still no information, no parts on order and I have wasted a week in time.
I am reluctant to order a keel cable from CD because of reported failures a number of years ago. It looks like I do not have a choice at this point. If you have ordered a keel cable from CD please let me know your experience.

I'm JUST GUESSING but, since they haven't made a swinger in 20+ years,(the 250 centerboard is a completely different animal) they probably don't stock the parts. Particularly since the move to Florida. I'd bet Ken is waiting to hear from CD to see what they have that he can re-sell to you. Call CD.
I am unaware of any issues with CD swing keel parts, they are used around the world. My personal experience was that the parts were of very high quality and to appropriate tolerances. The only thing I ever bought from Catalina was carpet, which is a current product for them.

This is our 6th year w/ a 'swinger', and as such have replaced the lift cable and turning ball every 2 years (this is the 3rd time...), this year we also replaced the winch and handle - Catalina Direct has always provided the right parts in a timely fashion...can't say a bad word about them...
Catalina Direct has built a business taking care of these old boats. They continuously improve their product. Catalina Yachts is not dedicated to the same objective, and might not be focused on its 40-year-old products, either organizationally or in terms of inventories. Does Chevrolet have all the parts for an '80 Impala? No, but somebody does.

I don't know why Ken would do that. He is an engineer.
Call back and talk to the parts department and tell the lady with the nice voice what you want. I got mine in just a few days and it was cheaper than anybody else.
I know this doesn't help you but Kent was very responsive and helpful when I was doing some work on my keel recently. He arranged for lag bolts to be shipped and the final cost was far less than CD. I've had positive experience with CD too it's just that in this case Catalina Yachts impressed me with their customer service. Especially considering I am not the original owner, it's an out of production boat, etc.

I had my keel cable made by a local rigger for significantly less than CD. The other parts are specialized, but the cable is just a cable with a swaged eye.
