Took my nice and clean cushions out to the boat tonight and reinstalled. I brought home the V berth cushions and they're in the laundry now. I also pulled the Princess stove and stainless surround, leaving the fiberglass opening which needs a good cleaning. I only had 3 dirt dobber nests! I measured the top opening so I can build a top cover to extend the counter top. I probably won't leave it as a big open space...hopefully I can find a cool Elfa organizer to put in there to better arrange dry storage.

I'll be at my boat this weekend.
I'm stuck in a cove.. the channel that goes to the lake lacks about 18 inches of water for me to get out.
I hope we get some big rain soon.

I'd like to take a peak at your boat.. feel free to email me since I can't figure out the PM function on this forum.

Yeah but the one you have on the lake has a great elevated view of the lake. Sunsets can be pretty spectacular too. the scenery is not bad in the summer months either!

I have the Kemah Boardwalk within 2 miles of my slip but the crowds are horrible on the weekend and you can't sail up (drive only) to eat. Besides the bay is ugly to look at anyway.

Then again there are a multitude of good restaurants within a couple of miles in the other direction that are land-locked AND West Marine is about 300 yards from my slip.

Hey Peter, are those SO-PAC closed cell foam cockpit seat cushions on the quarterberth in one of your pics? If so, do you know where I might buy some? I had 2 on our C-22 and lost one. I'd like to get some more.

One of the worst nights I've ever had was sailing on Canyon Lake was on a warm and muggy summer evening drinking warm Texas Pride! That stuff was nasty when it was cold.

But then again I was young and dumb!

Actually it was. I've been thinking about sailing on Canyon alot lately. I really miss sailing on that lake. If it wasn't a 3 hour drive I'd move the boat when my current lease expires at the end of May.

Hi Scott:
Congratulations! Prime Interest looks like a boat that belonged to a good friend, Jim. Hip Hip Hooray!
I also just bought a C-25 in Jan, and I thought I was ready to sail away. Then I found I have a list as long as my arm, of things to fix. My C-25, 'Promise' is on a trailer in my driveway. My joy has been commensurate with the amount of money I have to spend on fixing up my boat. I’ve become a big fan of West Marine, Catalina Direct & even Academy. (whats that?... sounds like the UPS truck is coming…) I looked in the dumpster, but of course, I am trying to get my wife to go down in there first, so I can know if it is safe. If I can help you with anything, give me a shout. I am down the road at the little lake in Arlington.

Hey Doug....as a matter of fact, she did belong to Jim!

Good folks, and I hope he and Gail are enjoying the Cat320 over on the other side of the lake.

I'm already waiting on my first order from Catalina Direct, and I've shopped Academy more than once.....I haven't gone to West Marine yet...from what I've seen online they're pretty expensive for what they offer...but if it's the only place I can get something I need then I'll shop them.

The only thing keeping me in the harbor right now is my motor. It's a little Yammy 5 hp and has a cracked water pump housing. My motor guy has one ordered, it just hasn't come in yet. I'm trying to time my repairs (galley, head, DC System and lights) so that I'll be done when the motor is, and I can take her out on the lake for an overnight.

Awesome, I have looked around the power boat stores, they have some stuff that is common. Be sure to check the SWAP Meet site here at the Assoc. forum. Ebay is okay, especially when you are the only bidder. But when everyone on earth is bidding on it, forget it. I have found a few things on Amazon.
I have been looking at a sail from a PO on Craigslist. I posted pictures of it on the Swap Meet forum, but I haven’t heard much yet. I have trouble figuring out if parts I don’t know anything about are worth buying. When I have done Craig’s list locally, I offer to meet them outside their local police station. That seems to cull out the riffraff. I West Marine's store in Lewisville is like a candy store with almost everything you ever dreamed of wanting. But then you look at the prices and feel like a kid, with only a quarter in your pocket.

I was unable to find the Lewisville store this morning. I went to where the address on the website was, and also my GPS....nada...no store. How could I miss it?

I'm an eBay sniper. When I find something I want, I will not put a bid on it until there is about 3 seconds left...I prep my bid with the max proxy price I will pay and keep refreshing the auction in another tab. I get the timing sync'd and count it off, hitting submit with "maybe" 3 seconds left. Sure, there's a chance a network glitch could sink me, but it's never happened and I've bought many, many things this way.

Be aware this pisses people off. I've had people send me angry emails, and one guy refused to honor the auction because "snipers get things too cheap". It's not against eBay rules so our escalated debate over it ended with him being removed from eBay. :-)

Today was a VERY GOOD DAY!

2 really great things:

1. I finished cleaning the interior. All together I spent 3 full days scrubbing, detailing, washing....and now the interior is looking sharp! Still needs alot of work on the teak and other stuff, but it's now up to muster. I finally did something I've wanted to do since I bought her: ENJOY my boat! What did I do? Took my shoes off, climbed up in the V berth, and relaxed...with a hint of Snuggle in the cushions and clorox from the squeaky clean walls and ceiling....front cover open to let in the breeze, soft clean pillow under my head, the sounds of the marina, gentle rocking of the boat....and I dozed in and out of a wonderful nap for two hours. It was perfect.

2. I met Eddy today, from here on the forum. He was out on his boat, called me and dropped by the marina. He came on board and we had a great chat for a couple of hours. We talked boats, our Cat25's of course....my Mom dropped by so he got to meet my mom...and I made a new friend today. Good times Eddy, come by any time. Sure wish you were staying on Eagle Mountain though.

Okay....for tomorrow: Start on the exterior. She needs a bath really bad so I'll give her a good soapy (boat soap of course) scrub down.

Talked to my motor guy yesterday...still waiting on the impeller housing cover to come in...really a drag as it's the ONLY thing keeping me in the marina right now. I'm SO ready to get out on the lake, especially now that the boat is ready too.

Scott, I looked for that store and it turned out to be quite a bit farther south than I thought and was on the east side of 35---nowhere very close to Lake Lewisville. (I tried not to look too much except at what I went in for!)

According to my GPS and the WM website, it's "supposed" to be on I35E across from Vista Ridge Mall, just north of 121. I drove that parking lot, from Garden Ridge all the way to Toys R Us....nada....no West Marine....or, I missed it somehow....

Scott--does your "motor guy" have some derelict little kicker he could loan you (out of pity) so you could motor out of the marina? Just about anything that isn't a short shaft (15") should do.

Meanwhile, you've proved to yourself Kenneth Grahame's famous quote:
quote:
There is nothing--absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.

You've got the idea--"the sounds of the marina"... Actually, with my boat on a dock outside of my condo (although not quite yet), I kinda miss the sounds of the marina. But there are other benefits that make up for it.

I have his "loaner" motor now....it's a little Merc 9.9 long shaft. He let us use it to get the boat to the other side of the marina for the pre-purchase haul out and bottom inspection. This motor is a serious shade tree mechanic job: no cover, fuel system is jury rigged, fuel mix is too rich so it smokes, runs so-so. It worked great until about halfway back to the slip. The throttle malfunctioned, racing out of control and started jumping in and out of gear. It was a bear trying to control that motor, and I had to do it with the kill switch. About 100' from my slip I just killed it and coasted into the slip. So, I have the loaner motor but I don't trust it.

The first thing on the boat broke on me today....the starboard side shock on the pop top broke off....it's one of those Catalina Direct assist kit shocks, and the plastic tabs inside the ball/socket attachment broke off. <sigh>

Other than that, I replaced all the dock lines in my slip today. I had replaced the ones in the boat, but I did all of them in the slip today. I also replaced the float fender and lines at the front of the slip that keeps the boat from hitting. Some of those old lines were in really bad shape, all different sizes, dried out...and the ones in the water for the old fender system were probably 4 times their original size, coated with moss and algae. Now my slip and boat has all new dock lines and fenders.

I'm to a point now where I can overnight on the boat in the marina. The marina has a bathroom with shower facilities, and hooked up to shore power I've got lights, movies via my 17" MacBook Pro, fans...stove is working so just need food/drinks. If the weather is good next weekend I'll spend Saturday night aboard!

I have a line on another motor. I picked up a pop top cover form a guy who sold his Cat25, and in his garage he has the Evinrude Yacht Twin 8HP motor...he was going to use it on a Jon boat, but it's too long. He hasn't started it in a year, but before that had the carb rebuilt and said it was running good. He said he'd take $600 for it. Don't know what year it is, but it looked clean. If my Yammy doesn't get fixed soon, I might grab that Evinrude and sell the Yammy when I finally get it back.

Grab it and sell either one later. The light-weight 2-strokes are virtually gold these days--there's no such thing on the new market.

Sorry about the confusion with West Marine, I had to call them to make sure I got to the correct store location. This is where I actually found it

Yes, that's the location I went to. I drove the whole strip, from Garden Ridge to Toys R Us....I did not see West Marine....I put that address into my GPS and it took me to the shopping center...

Geez, this whole mystery caused me to check Google myself - and I moved away from North Texas in 1986, so I have no skin in this game.

It looks like you did not go far enough north on I35. WM's website shows it just north of exit 448A. From Google's street view it looks like it is in a building formerly occupied by the now-defunct Tweeter electronics store.

Hi Pete:
Thanks,I will get on the map. At Lake Arlington everybody has to stay on the dry, hence I am a trailer sailor. You can stay out there on the water over the weekend, but I don't think they want you out there permanently.
