Based on several recommendations from other forum members I tried the Star-brite Non-Skid Deck Cleaner over the weekend. This stuff is awesome!!! My decks look almost like new now and the stuff is very easy to use.
Practical Sailor reviewed the three main non-skid cleaner/waxes: Starbrite, Aurora and Woodys. I have tried the first two and based on those, I agree with the review they did a few years ago. Starbrite is better than Aurora and a less expensive. Woodys is the best supposedly but the cost of it is like paying for gold especially if using it on all the non-skid areas. The areas that you apply the products do look improved and provides protection for some time, how long, is debatable but maybe half a season and these products to not make the area slippery. I purchased a whole bunch of the Starbrite product because at the time, The Boat US store was just about ready to be taken over by West marine and they had a bunch of the Starbrite stuff sold under a Boat US label which they were getting rid of for $1.00 a bottle. I think I bought 5 bottles of it but I do not often use it since.....I am lazy when it comes to the non-skid areas and so i wind up mostly just washing the area with a boat soap.
Wow, I can't wait to use it. I bought a bottle long ago, but have been doing other maintanance instead. Based on several other opinions here, sounds like it's worth every penny.
I love this stuff too. In fact all StarBrite products work well. I use their hull polish. Just like the deck cleaner it is quick, easy and provides great results.
I couldn't believe how easy mildew and stains came off. I basically just lightly scrubbed most of them with a boat brush to get down in the non-skid and it came out clean. Some of the really nasty stuff took 2 or 3 applications to get it clean.
I had a rub mark on one side where I gently rubbed up against the rub rail on the boat next to me (ssshhh). That was 2 years ago and nothing has even come close to removing it. A couple of applications of this stuff and the marks are completely gone!

I have neglected to clean the deck and cockpit and I have black mold forming! Does the Star-brite non-slip deck cleaner clean this? Or do I need something stronger?<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">It works for me--I use a semi-soft deck brush with it. I get the nastiest mildew on the deck around my solar vent--I guess the vent deposits moisture there. The cleaner and brush eat it up quickly. I haven't found Star-brite to make the nonskid areas slippery, although the bottle gets to be almost impossible to hold! It does leave a protective film on the deck, at least for a while--probably no slipperier than new gelcoat nonskid.
Just purchased a small $100.00 plus tax Coleman 1600 PSI electric pressure washer and used it, with just tap water, to clean the decks.
It easily removed all grime, a season's dirt build-up, spills and bird droppings resulting in a totally clean deck. Wow... no scrubbing or chemicals of any kind...
Would it be desirable though to the seal deck's surface after pressure washing and if so what type would you recommend?

Some might not approve of this, but I like a nice clean boat. In the Spring prior to launch, after washing the boat I wax everything, including the entire deck! I don't wax it so much for the shine (I just do a quick wipe on, wipe off with 3M liquid wax, no buffing whatsoever) but rather to have a barrier between the dirt and the gelcoat which makes cleaning throughout the season soooo much easier. Most times after the days sail, I just quickly hose the boat off and it looks great without getting the bucket and brush out. I figure that hour or two I spend waxing the deck that one time saves me countless hours during the season keeping the boat clean. Contrary to what one might think, the non-skid isn't really slippery even when wet.
In the photo below, notice the reflection of the sheet on the wall of the cockpit floor. No chalkiness there, or anywhere. Not too bad for a 31 year old boat.

Looks like you've nailed it. I'm going to print your post above for my boat file.
I used Starbrite´s cleaner and a pressure washer and it was working, then an old salt passed by me at the dock and said: "You know, Mr. Clean Magic eraser will help a lot!"
AND IT DID!!!
So now, I always have a couple of Mr Clean´s Magic Eraser by the side of my Starbrite!
Practical Sailor tested Magic Eraser and concluded that no boat should be without them. They are just as amazing as Starbright's cleaner; I always have both aboard.
I'm a huge fan of the magic erasers. You can get them in bulk at the wholesale clubs like BJ's, Costco, Sam's, etc. the Starbright stuff sounds interesting, thanks for the tip!!!
