I had a "duh" moment in my sleep last night. I realized in my dream that I tightly secure the spinnaker and spare genoa halyard to the front pulpit and I don't loosen them during a race. I just now realized I've been fighting those darn halyards when tightening the backstay. How does everyone else secure those halyards? I hope nobody else was a bonehead like me.

Dont have a spare halyard, and during a race the spin halyard is tied to the spin in the cabin. However, if not in use they're usually tied to the spin pole car ring on the front of the mast. Might get a tad clanky during a race, but at least the mast is still free to work.

I have a large ring at the base of the mast that the 2nd Gen and the Spin halyard are hooked to. It's the same ring that the boomvang is attached to.

I keep the spin pole ring on the mast fairly free (only the pole topping lift attached to it) to use for the whisker pole.
