I am considering installing a jib halyard on my tall rig. the manual says 75 ft. I would like to attach it to the bow pulpit and run it back to the cockpit. Is 75 ft up to the task?
Forgot to ad - what do you folks recommend for cordage? Who has the good deals? Since the halyard will be only as a backup to the headstay and for contingencies - I'd like decent line but stretch will probably not be a factor.
DJ, That length sounds about right, but I'd measure it to make sure. Twice the length of the mast plus the distance to the winches, plus about five feet or so for a tail. I think our mast is 33' if I remember correctly. I can measure mine for you tomorrow, but I recommend you measure your own to be certain. If your mast is up, you can use a 100' fiberglass tape and your main halyard to do the measurement. The tape is handy for tuning your rig so it's not a bad idea to have one anyway.
