Help! As I'm preparing to mount new deck/steaming light the bolts for the old one are AWOL. I REALLY don't want to use the wrong size and strip the holes. This is the last thing I need to do to launch so time is of the essence. Your replies are appreciated.

Thanks,

DJ

The machine screws were #8. I have discovered that the upper mounting screws were stripped when my headsail sheared the light fixture off the mast.

What would you all suggest to replace the upper screws? Self tapping #10? If I use self tapping screws do I need to be concerned that the tip of the screw may catch on internal halyard?

Are there any washers inside/outside the light fixture and the mast?

I think they are just taped in ..

there is i kit called Heilicoil its a thread repair around $5
you can find them in a auto shop ..
drill out the hole ..tap it , then use the tool supplyed to screw in the coil for a # 8 screw .

you might have to order such a small size .
find the thread count of the screw first .

or you could just pop rivet in place ,
then drill it out the rivet if you ever have to remove the fixture .

Used #10s. Worked just fine. Thanks for the replies. Now if I could figure out why the deck and anchor light work but steaming does not I'd be happy.
