I discovered just recently that two of the 3 gallon Merc/Nissan/Tohatsu OEM gas tanks will sit side by side in the fuel locker on the C-25.

Hey David,
Instead of two three gallon tanks, I've got the 3-gallon merc tank and a plastic two and a half gallon "jerry" can.

The PO upgraded mine to a 6.3 gallon tank...it fits perfectly...in fact, could probably fit a little bit larger tank if they made one in the proper dimensions.

I just ordered this 7.5 gal. tank for my '84 C25
http://www.boatersplus.com/moeller-9gas-portable-fuel-tank.html
If the tank dimentions and my locker measurements are correct,it should fit in the fuel locker with an inch or two to spare.

Post up when you get it, with pictures. If it works out for ya, I'm gonna buy one of those too.

The 2 3's fit snuggly. No moving around at all. I don't have long distance motoring issues, and I have a 5 hp Merc 4 stroke for the C-22, so two 3 gal. tanks work well for me. Makes it easier to change out stale gas, too.

BTW, the 9.8 Nissan was idling okay after sailing, so maybe I won't have to pull it and replace the low idle jet after all. I ran a heavy Seafoam concentration through it for about 2 hours total over the last 2-3 outings. hopefully, that cleaned out the jets.

Sportsman's Guide - under $60, at Gander Mountain the same tank is $90. Go figure.

I prefer the 2x3 gallon option because it lets you keep fuel fresh. Refill the empty tank when the operational tank gets below 1/2 or so or if you might be motoring a long way before your next fill up opportunity. Avoids the whole hydroscopic nature of alcohol issue.

I gotta ask how real the "stale Gas" thing really is. Either I am getting really lucky or somethign just isn't adding up.

Left my riding mower with a full tank over the winter and forgot to put stabilizer in it. It started no problem and ran without a glitch. Once it ran out of gas (2 mowings) I took the leftover gas from the boat tanks and used it up. Again no problems. I can't think of a time I have ever had trouble with stale gas.

I use regular in the lawnmower (and other yard equipment), mid-grade in the car, and high grade (to avoid ethanol) in the boat. If anything gets dangerously low I may steal from Peter to pay Paul, except for the yard equipment. If I run out of gas there, I open a beer and call it a day. In any case, it seems I am having good luck regardless of teh grade or age of fuel I am using.

If you're putting beer in your lawnmower it's no wonder we're having trouble with the ozone layer.

When I was at West Marine this morning picking up an access cover, I checked out the fuel tanks...they had that exact model...looks to be a good size and all, I bet it fits in the fuel locker....but, there's no carrying handle. It's gonna be awkward to muscle it in/out of the boat to fill it up.

If I don't use my gas up in 2 - 3 weeks I dump it in the truck and refill with fresh fuel the next time I go down to the boat. Much cheaper and a lot less worry than risking having a problem on the water.

Sorry it took me so long to respond but the tank was on back order. Anyway here it is:

As you can see it fits fine and leaves room for an extra quart of oil in the locker. John it does not come with fittings only a 1/4npt female fitting. So you will have to transfer the fittings from your old tank or purchace new, as I did.
Joe I just noticed your post about "no handles" The one I got has indentations on the side for handles. I wouldn't want to carry a full tank down a long dock with them, but for a short trip from the car to a boat docked near-by, or lifting it in and out at a gas dock, the handles are ok.

What are the measurements of that tank? I'm still looking for a larger-than-three-gallon tank to replace my ruined by alcohol phase separation metal tank (which I stupidly forgot to measure before I gave it to the nice reclamation lady).

Beautiful! Thanks for posting the pics of it. I'm going to pick one up. My old tank, while it works, needs a serious cleaning and rebuild...it's time for a new tank, fittings and hoses.

Shelf life is 60 - 90 days, depending on your local blend. Storing with a full tank is optimal whether you use stabilizer or not. Winter air has less moisture to be absorbed by the alcohol. Closing the vent on your tank also prevents moisture from breathing with temp change. If you do these things and don't use stabilizer, you may be fine. I use stabilizer over the winter for the lawn tractor and the Miata now that ETOH is in most fuel, but I have never used it regularly. Incidentally, most premium grade gas contains ETOH. I use regular in everything except my wife"s Subaru WRX, there is no advantage in using a higher octane than your engine requires.

Joe Diver, the best price I have found for Dri-dek tiles:

http://www.emachinetool.com/accessories/catalog/large.cfm?OptionCatID=Safety%20Systems%20%26%20Tiles&OptionFamilyID=77

$4.10 ea. min. order box of 12 = $49.20. S/H may be extra.

You will need at least 10, maybe 12, for the C-25 cockpit floor. If you do this, I suggest taking a Sharpie and numbering them after fitting to the floor. Makes reassembly a lot easier after taking them apart for cleaning. Not good for racing, they do tend to slide around a bit!

It will take 12 Dri-Dek tiles (Just counted them last night)
If you are considering teak also consiter the additional maintainence and that it frequently gets too hot to stand if you like to go bare foot on the boat.

Thanks a bunch for that.....teak will get too hot? That makes the choice right there then...the summer sun in Texas can be brutal....

The extra tank on a long run is the way to go. The gas in MD is causing problems. Adding additives is the only way to fight it on the small engines. I towed a guy back to the marina 2 weeks ago.
If you are not going to use the fuel for 4-6 weeks, put it in the truck and get new. The engine might run OK at speed, but at idle trying to get into the slip it will stall. Not a good thing in windy conditions.
