I just got a 94' 250 WB with a malfunctioning centerboard system. The centerboard comes up but not all the way. The PO knew it was not working quite right. We got it on the trailer without difficulty.
From my limited reading it looks like you need to get at the centerboard by removing 4 bolts from the underside. Is this where I can get at the block/tackle raising system? Has anyone done this? Can I do it on the trailer? Any thoughts as to just leaving it alone?
How far does the centerboard raise? When you got it on the trailer, did the centerboard drag all the way or does it just rest on the trailer bunks? While on the trailer, if you pull on the line, does the centerboard move at all?
If it is only a few inches short of horizontal then it might not be that bad. If it drags on the trailer (like short a few feet) then the trailer will chip the centerboard each time it's loaded.
Inside the cabin (behind the stairs) does the block and tackle attach to a steel cable or a Vectron line? The original was a steel cable, but there was a later upgrade to a line. The replacements now are all line, so this might have been replaced.
Do you have an owner's manual? Look at the pictures, usually the turning ball is stuck and needs to be replaced too.
With the boat on the trailer I can't really tell if the centerboard is moving with pulling on the line. I'm not sure if the centerboard was pushed up by the trailer when we put it on or if it had been raised by the line. When I was pulling it off the lake we did pull the line and it felt like it was pulling it up. The water was so murky that I couldn't see. It is so tight on the trailer that I can't move it up any more. I took a board and can't pry it up any further.
The line going down into the tube is "nylon" so I think it has been replaced.
I did look at the manual (RTFM) but at this point it just seems like all the lines just lead into a "black box".
How do I access the area to replace the ball and fix this?
