This is really an asset location device not a tracking device. It only keeps 10 points of daily tracking and you have to request/ping the device and request a response.
For example, with this device you have to activly request it's location, it does not record and store the location automatically for later review. So as a device to find you boat after a theft it works great or even in an emergency it would work, but if you want to view and analize your last sailing trip, not so good. It only keeps 10 points and you have to activly request the point.
True, but I was thinking of this device more as a device for the wife to use to make sure I was OK or for the CG to use to find me if I come up missing. I have a $1,100.00 GPS to keep track of my last sailing trip and it has XM Sattelite weather.
I believe they have an upgraded service that lets you keep up with the last seven days of movement for $4.95/mth.
Mainly just wanted to let everyone know of this new device.
We have similar devices in the Alarm industry, but they depend upon cellular coverage, which is what I'm guessing this unit utilizes.
It's a useful device, but a cell phone with 'Latitude' on it let's you know where the phone is. For it's intended purposes, it looks like a good solution (but don't you hate it when they make stupid restrictions on the data retained! Even Spot ditches the data after 7 days!)
And of course, like Spot, it only works if you turn it on.
When read the write-up my understanding/assumption was it transmitted back to a satellite which then downloaded it to a web based software package for display.
I'll have to read the write up a little closer. I probably just misread it. Makes more sense it would transmit via a cell network.

Probably uses text messages to transmit data. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"> Yep, I missed that piece of the puzzle.
