Here's what I put together to add to the bottom of the stern ladder for the admiral. The line is 3/8". I plan to loop the lines over both sides of the bottom step and tie them off to the second step up to distribute the weight.

Maybe they're live oak, it doesn't float.

Yes, they will float. We haven't tried it yet. I'll probably have to test it out first.

I extended ours with a braided rope ladder, wouldn't be without it.
