Has anyone here ever had an old main converted to a trisail? Or an old jib converted to a storm jib?

I'll bet that's not a huge reach. Talk to your sail maker. have him look at your sail and he'll be able to advise.

Previous owner hadn't installed UV-protective cover strips when converting to roller-furling, so the leech and foot of my 150% genoa had deteriorated from sun exposure.

Local sailmaker cut it down to about a 135% (and installed Sunbrella fabric). I'm happy with the conversion. Side benefit: it's now reinstalled with a tack pendant, and forward visibility under the sail is greatly improved.

I love my tack pendants, have made them for the 110 and the 150. I think it reduces wear and tear a lot and like you say, visibility is much better.

I sailed my C25 on an inland lake in southern Indiana for 23 years, and thought I needed a storm jib, so I bought one and never needed it once. It's a good thing to have if you sail the great lakes or other big waters, but it just isn't needed on an inland lake. On an inland lake, you're so close to your marina, or to a windward shore where you can find shelter and anchor during a storm, that storm sails aren't useful.

We'll be sailing Lake Michigan and living on the boat for weeks at a time during June and July. I was considering a gale sail, but now have extra older sails that could be recut.
