Isn’t get older fun. The other day I thought I would step the mast while on the trailer thinking it would only take and hour maybe two as I’m by myself. That’s normally true using the mast step and A frame method. Why not, this has always worked before. Boy was I out of practice it took me all day to raise the mast. The hole purpose was to just get the mast out of the way so I could pressure wash and give her a good cleaning after return her from the San Juan Islands. Well I got side tracked the next day and now it’s raining with thunder storms predicted for tomorrow go figure. So I've now created a lighting rod in the front yard. The good side theirs sunny weather predicted for Friday I think I’ll let she till then. Is this why old farts switch to Trawlers?

Yeah, I had a particularly rough day out on the water this summer, and came back exhausted, and a trawler was starting to look good, with an inside steering station, AC and color tv tuned to Jerry Springer, but I haven't gone there yet, and hope I never will. One rough day isn't enough to change your lifestyle. The next time out will probably be a good one. Hang in there Pops!

Dave has experience - I would talk to him. Also, he has more battery experience from before I was born ! So any battery questions - he can advise on that issue as well.

Just to not let age get you down. I think there are other factors as well...at least for some of us. In my situation, I was a very active going to the fitness center and bicycle riding. I would average over 2000 miles a year biking and that was also participating in century rides, etc. Then 6 years ago, I got back into sailing. Even though sailing really does not have to interfere with going to the fitness center, it certainly does interfere with the biking. Basically, I find that sailing is an enjoyable sport but does not provide the cardiovascular workoutr nor the resistance exercises to maintain good muscle tone/fit body. If I compare how I was 6 years ago to now, while it is true I am 6 years older and now at the ripe age of 62 1/2, my fitness is more effected by my curtailing of most biking and regularly going to the fitness center. So, if you are not working out, then that could be the bigger issue versus age. Then again...if you really are an old fart....well then maybe get someone to help out with some of the things you were able to do by yourself...though, getting assistance is not always easy to accomplish or desired.

Yepper.. I may not feel like a bunch of young bucks anymore...
(just love this shot... sorry bucks..... let me know if you feel this is copyright infringement and I'll pull it...)

But I have fun at my own speed, and Sailing is still my favorite workout, along with the weight lifting! It's not a century, but it's not bad.

Do ya get a look like this on your face from the wheel of a trawler? I think not...

We went out last weekend and it was blowin 15-25 and it was a hoot..I had just gotten the rig up so now I've got to re-tune it again.

Man.. that was a day.. spent the night on the boat, woke up to a sky full of stars, motored in and the #1 grlfrnd went out to run up to and back down from the southern start of the AT ( Springer Mountian ) came back and we sailed till dusk. Incredible Day..

But two days ago, Fishers Island Sound was glass... A few sailboats were motoring in, and I was flying out to The Race (a place) at 35, the spray flying 50' on both sides when I hit each long swell... Faster than I ever go in normal seas... I might have been smiling. Yesterday we had waves of light-to-medium rain... I motored quietly down the river under the hardtop, wipers running now and then... with nobody else out there. There was a smile inside.

I don't think I went to the Dark Side because I'm old--there were a bunch of reasons having to do with how and when I was using the boat, where I wanted to go, both alone and with a time-constrained special lady, and how many boats I could afford to slip, store, and operate. (There's the "getting old" part--living off the nest-egg and SS. )

Peter Powers!! You Go Boy!! I'm beginning to think the Texas Tag should say. "We have more Fun in Texas!"

Dave.. You gotta tell those stories more often. I can only imagine the fun you have on Sarge.. That is a sweet ride... I'm always hesitant to relate the stink stories, but they rock!

I've always told my wife that when I felt it was time to leave sailing behind I would want a 25 ft Grady White over-nighter. A sweet boat in my opinion. She of course turns a deaf ear to me.

That boat will gitty up...
You can post stink stuff any ol time.. as Much help as I've gotten from you I'm all ears. I'm so landlocked the knowledge does not roll this far uphill. Privileged to get the ear and hear from a sea side New Englander. Personally I feel we are all stinkpotters, just smaller pots. #1 Grlfrnd and I went out last weekend and just motored out and dropped the hook. Sunset, Dinner, Dominoes, and rest.. hard to beat. Boat sleeps Great, better than land.

<< 25 ft Grady White over-nighter >>

Dad always loved a hard top.. I loved a blue sheet ( auctual bedsheet )

I leaned toward the Proline, but now that gas is $$$$ I'm more in the direction of a single on an Aquasport.
