So I found a GPSMAP541S on eblay. It came without a cord or mount. i am looking for ideas on the mount as well as wind instruments. The transducer i have on board is an RCA type plug (like A/V equipment) and will not directly plug in. Does anyone know of an adaptor (RCA to 6pin) or have a transducer?

Anyone looking to sell the items compatible with the main unit, post here. I am also open to a thread hijack for pointers in installation, various other mounts, how to reglass over the old non-functioning instruments (datamarine depth and datamarine speed/log)

wanted:

...anyone with advice on a 6-pin. May try out a depth/speed/temp all-in-one unit. There is already a thru-hull speed transducer that I may replace, though it is mounted near the bulkhead port side (port and forward of the waste tank.)

Hi Michael:
Airmar makes alot of the transducers, here is the link to their cross reference guide, http://www.airmartechnology.com/2009/cross-reference.php

Thans Doug, I am going to inspect my current hull speed indicator, and potentially put in a tri-ducer thru-hull. That gives speed, temp and depth in one. Or see if I can connect the existing paddlewheel and get an in-hull depth. btw, I presume thru-hull and in-hull can both be mounted as an in-hull, as the old RCA style "thru-hull" transducer was, though temp will not be included then, unless I get a dedicated sensor. I do see in-hull that includes depth, but can't imagine that would be as accurate with the hull as a barrier to actual sea.

I can't directly answer you questions but my Humminbird depth finder obviously reads depth and also temperature. It's mounted in-hull and both the depth and the temp are very accurate.

The depth is accurate enough that I've sailed in water depths as shallow as 4' (not on purpose) and have never touched the bottom with my wing keel which draws 2' 10". The temp is usually within 1 degree of the surrounding water. I attribute this to the hull constantly being in contact with the water and warming or cooling based on the outside water temp.

While a fisherman may desire accurate real-time water temperature readings a sailboat usually has no need for the real-time accuracy. So the in-hull temperature readings work very well to approximate the actual water temp between a degree or two.

THanks for all of the input everyone. I will have to make a trip out to the boat and see what my current paddle wheel sensor is, then go from there. Hopefully I can set up a NMEA network, connect in the paddlewheel and pick up a new transducer. The alt. is replace the paddlewheel thru-hull with a new tri-ducer
