We spent our New Year weekend on JD in Biscayne Bay, the weather on Jan 1st was incredible, light air, but totally blue sky.
This was our first chance to fly our new Asym Spinnaker.
I hadn't realized what a difference raising the tack height made to the ability to sail off the wind.
With the Tack about the height of the pulpit, it behaved like a giant jib, but a very narrow range off the wind and prcatically limited to a broad reach.
Raising the Tack to the same height as the clew allowed us to sail much further off the wind, we could not quite get to a dead downwind run, but anything over the stern quarter was a delight.
To keep the Tack close to the forstay, I used a webbing sail tie secured to the furled 110Jib above and below the Tack position.
Setting and Dousing the sail with the chute was a breeze. We even managed a few gybes. I have the sail rigged for outside sheeting.
Any hints on making the most of the sail would be appreciated.
