I tryed to come with an explanation in my head for this crash and who would be Stand on and Give way and figure out what happened. And I ended up with 2 scenarios were either one or the other were at fault.
After the crash it really doesn´t matter who was what, except for who get´s the repair bill but I got curious so here is what I found:
"KORA 5 (on stbd) was on the layline to the committee boat travelling at around 10 knots She was overlapped to windward by Illusion (on stbd) and had other vessels overlapped and alongside close to leeward Illusion had no room to start and suddenly tried to bear away to take the stern of Kora This action was not successful and a collision occurred just seconds later.
The jury found that Kora could not avoid the collision." - From Sailnet forum
I also found a neat picture of the bowman (Bowcrew for the ladies) with his legs up in the air... =OP
I used to race on a Frers 30 I had when I was a kid. Ate me out of house and home. Broke something almost everytime we raced. Came close a few times to an actual collision, but I did not have insurance, so I broke off and let it go. It seems like they are making sailing SO competitive that we don't blink... Seriously this violates all of the rules of the sea. Collisions are to be avoided. This was stupid. Capt. Dave, take their tickets away. Improper seamanship... Sorry, race as hard as you want, just come home not missing chunks...
