Not bad, but not good. We just shrugged and put it back together. Now you've got me worried and I think I'll start hunting for a new tiller. When I get it, I'll want to protect the whole thing so this doesn't happen again. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
When I installed a new tiller about ten years ago, I put rather thin neoprene rubber washers from Home Depot in between the tiller and the straps to lessen the chance of water infiltration.
Kate, I hang the main-sheet in a rail strap found at any Marine store, I think its Taylor Made brand( See photo ). I don't store my tiller as in the photo, I only park it there to get it somewhat out of the way when we are just hanging out or I'm doing work one the boat. When I put the boat away I put the tiller mid-ship and run a small piece of line from my Tiller Tamer cleat, Rap it around the tiller 4 times and then to the other Tiller Tamer cleat. You can see one of the cleats in the first photo (above) in the back corner. Here is a better photo showing the rail strap.
I ordered a new tiller. And I think my wife is going to try making tiller cover. I will trim off the end of this one a stow it and some C-clamps for a backup.
glw - based on this whole conversation, I ordered my new tiller today too - and measured the old tiller for the new tiller cover I'm going to make. I'm glad you brought this up, I don't ever want to be caught with out a tiller.
I did get a new tiller. It is installed and ready to go. I still need to trim the old tiller. My wife made a cover, but used some orange fabric that clashes with everything. I think I will use that cover to hold the old one and talk her into making another cover for the new tiller.
