Iris is no longer a Lake Simcoe boat. We are now members of a Lake Ontario club. Now we just need to figure out the logistics of relocation.

I may need to change my signature now.

"Iris"

Take a minute to register your boat with the association!!

Now you'll get to experience <i>sailing over the horizon</i> (if you haven't tried it)! I know Simcoe isn't a pond, but the Great Lakes are "real water"--and a "big easterly" will have a whole new meaning! (It might start you thinking about a bigger boat... )

Where's the club and what's it called?

On Simcoe we could sail over the horizon, and it was cool, but as soon as you reached the dead centre of te lake, you could see 270° of shore, which was also cool.

Chris -
Congratulations! Are you located downtown somewhere? Up in Frenchman's Bay? Down by Humber Bay? or out in Oakville?

Don't forget to move your "pin" on the C25 map page....

Now you've got major adventures ahead. I was up in Watertown NY kayaking last summer and headed in and out of the bays, and the next day we launched in the 1000 Islands area - AWESOME! It's a beautiful lake - you're going to love it.

Now do you have all the necessary nautical charts? You can start with NOAA's GeoGarage to scope it out. No problem with skinny waters off the GTA.

Congratulations... lucky people... is Port Hope now your home port or perhaps Cobourg or which other of the fresh water ports? You'll have a lifetime of exploring.

So what are we supposed to go on... "club" and "Lake Ontario"? I suppose we can guess it's somewhere in the Toronto area of the lake... Ashbridge's Bay? (Cool place!)

OK - what was I thinking!?!?

Knowing the general bent of the group - I googled "Affordable Toronto Yacht Club" and viola!

Up came: http://mooredale.com/cm/index.php
"<b>Affordable</b>, addictive, ..... a location ten minutes from Downtown. Welcome to the best kept secret in Toronto! "

It looks like a fun spot...

This has got to be it!

Yeah you deserve a hint. Its someplace between Niagara Fals and Cornwall on the Ontario side

Closest guess so far would be Frenchman's.

Okay... I get it... Frenchman eh? How about Gananoque, ON, Canada, or Kingston the military and prison city, or Prescott with its gateway to the USA, or Village Quay Marina 541 Thousand Islands Parkway, Leeds and the Thousand Islands, ON K0E 1L0, Canada... anyone of them would be fine

guess... somewhere east of Cobourg and west of Kingston... presumably with a marina close-by or in town and on the lake... where could that be but Trenton, Picton, Belleville, Brighton... all wonderful places, not densely populated and with great sailing at your doorstep. We have family in Kingston and Port Hope and like the surrounding cottage, lake and recreational areas

Ok, ok, ok.....
Whitby Harbor is talking it up: " ...idyllically situated between a safe harbour and the sandy shores of Lake Ontario. WYC has active social, racing and cruising programs enjoyed by kids, teens and adults ... "
Sounds great!

Lake of Bays Sailing Club in Oshawa looks like a fine spot as well.....

Both of which are not far from Simcoe. Chris - is there a water route between Simcoe and Ontario? Like somewhere around Trenton and the Murray Canal?

THE TRENT-SEVERN WW traverses Simcoe. We made that incredible trip several years ago starting from Lake Ontario.

Guess that answers my question.

As I recall, it connected Lake Ontario with the Georgian Bay. There were locks along the way, as well as lift sections where somehow the boat is lifted out of the water, and carried overland for some distance (?) somehow.

And the Peterborough Lift Lock. The entire tub of water that you are floating in goes up or down.

So hot you are on fire. Less than a mile from Whitby harbour. (Ok, actually in the same hatbour as Whitby Harbour.)

And yes, we could transit the Trent canal to get to Lake ontario and our new club. I am weighing the pros and cons of shipping the boat vs taking the canal. Mostly it depends on how the sale of the house goes and what kind of a moving day we end up with. If we move quickly I will have to ship the boat. If we move anything after June, the canal makes sense.

We looked closel at Port Hope and Cobourg but decided the commute was just too long. There are some beautiful historic properties out that way though and property is cheap. The PHAI is pretty trumped up from all the info I could find. Maybe we'll keep it in mind for retirement in another billion years.

Last night I got a very pleasant call from teh Rear Commodore at Whitby Yacht Club telling me my references had checked out and I am welcome to join them for a new members orientation. What a pleasant call to get. A far cry from the current club's policy.

Anyway we get voted in alongside 4 other new members in a week, and then the club will never be the same again. He he he... I think there is even another C-25 on their race results from last year.

Awesome... i've been on late ontario since 2008 and I absolutely love it and don't have any plans moving just yet. Yes 25 is bit small, but it's been great for me... and I had an opportunity to sail in all kinds of weather.

i'm based out of west end.
