I usually wish I had a coupon when I was at the store, and then find one as soon as I get home. [I don't have any interest in WM, but I wish I did] Doug

Yea, I always get coupon codes like this in my email. Maybe we can make a "West Marine/Defender Coupon Code" thread which can be updated for everyone to use.
Today I received a West Marine flyer for a sale beginning March 15th through April 1st. In it, they have VC-17m on sale for $52.99, $10.00 off the normal price.
I just bought some Dr LED lights a few weeks ago. I wonder if I brought them back for a full refund, then bought them again, if I'd save the $15! I did already get WM to match Defender's price, so I guess I did better than $15 for two anyway.
Funny Bruce, I put together my shopping list priced it out on WM's website, looked at the price of gas, and ordered from Binnacle.com since I could get free shipping from them and the prices were a little better.
I'll wait for Defender's Warehouse Sale "down the road a piece" at the end of this month--10% off everything there is a lot better than 15% off at WM. (The sale is a bigger event than some boat shows--complete with vender booths and mfgr's reps...)
The killer (around here at least) on the American chains is that if you internet-order, you get dinged with duties at the border that can be as high as your order was in teh first place. With gas being $1.28/litre right now (thats around $4.85/gal) by the time I drive into the city, find parking, etc. the deals aren't so great at all. Makes more sense to either shop the little local guys or go with CDN internet companies - like Binnacle.
On the upside - some of teUS companies have clued into this and now have distribution centres in Canada so the duties aren't an issue. Too bad WM and Defender aren't among them BUT if you phone an order in to WM they will ship to store for cusomer pickup.
Dave, Doesn't say on their site, but if memory serves the Defender warehouse sale is slated to begin on Thursday, 29-March through 1-April. Thursday's probably your best bet, as Saturday will be the usual zoo. Wonder if I can take the day off and get up there?
Bruce--I suspect you have it right--I'm planning on those dates. The sale "starts" Thursday, but I've gone there on the Wed. before, and had the whole place to myself--me and about 50 employees, with the sale prices honored. However, the manufacturers' reps weren't around, and it was actually kind of eery in that big place, with preparations being finished.
If you go Thursday or Friday, I'll suggest arriving around 1-2 pm when the first wave is leaving--that pretty much insures you can park in their lot instead of out on the highway, and you should be able to find a shopping cart. I can't speak to Sat-Sun... I've never subjected myself to that! (Why would I??)
