Chakana, If you are not in a big hurry, I'll have a C-25 fin keel trailer available to rent in about 2-3 weeks. I've sold my C-25, but the new owner has it on the trailer for maintenance before we move it to the other lake in this area, which is closer to his home.
Ask around to see what works best in your waters. That can make a difference. All other things being equal, VC-17 has a strong following. Reapplications should be done annually, but the process is supposed to be very easy.
David, Thank you for the offer of the trailer rental. Does sound like a better plan, although we'd have to get the boat from one trailer to another. It's in various stages of epoxy blister repair right now so don't want to put in the water. Will have to ponder this one....
We have already purchased the paint. Actually we're doing 3 coats of Pettit Protect Primer over the epoxy, then two coats of SR-21. Honestly we had planned on doing the Interprotect 2000E and VC 17 combo. However we attended the Strictly Sail Chicaco--the Interlux people wouldn't give us the time of day (repeatedly) so we went over to the Pettit booth, where the salesman was very friendly and helpful. The prices were virtually the same, so we went with customer service!
P.S. Speaking of paint. I (Anna) have been wanting this 'different' looking boot stripe in a lime green color. Couldn't find it anywhere, so bought some BrightSide paint in blue and in yellow ($60 gamble). Mixed it 3 parts yellow to one part blue, and Voila!! perfect Lime green!!! I was so excited!! The more experienced sailer we crew for on Wed. nights thinks I'm crazy and the boat will have no resale value. I say that I never want to sell my precious boat anyway, and besides, it already has no resale value!!!
LOL - resale on any boat is a difficult mark to set.
Although - in the past week I have had both a home inspector and RE agent ask if I was selling mine. Hmmmm. Maybe something just a little bit bigger???
Chakana, I have to comment on your lime green stripe. I think it's a GREAT idea! We were doing some bottom paint work ourselves this weekend and used lime green 'Frog' tape to get a good line. Once we were done I stood back to admire our work and noticed that the green tape really seemed to add a nice accent. Alas, I had to peel our green line off but I think it would look excellent! Send a pic of it when you get it done!
Charley--- I have dropped my keel several times...I also built a frame just like the one shown by Frank Hopper . This keeps the forward end of the keel upright . The keel cable holds the aft end up ..I also used a jack (bottle) under the forward end . Then you can back out the bolts and slowly let the keel down to a new lower position , I did this several times to get it to the position I wanted .. Replace the cable before working on the Pin area . My boat was on Jackstands and cement blocks in the middle . The boat should be 3 1/2 ' off the ground. Frank Law "ABOUT TIME" 1983 # 3519 SWK /SR

Bravo--well done!
Waterbaby--I was betting you had navy blue--those two colors look great together. Frank--great details. Thank you--big help. The marina charges $90 for the first day, then $20 per day after that. Not bad at all, really. From what I hear, I think we are the ones who will operate it.
