There are many reasons why a boat would be listed at half it's value, and most of them are bad. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"> ..agreed.. selling for a friend who's father passed. I may still want to look, survey here would be critical IF it were to get that far.
For our boat, we did not get a survey. I knew there would bea LOT of work to do, but wanted the learning experience on simple systems. A completely re-wired AC system, and hald a DC system down so far, some topside polishing, keel fairing, bottom paint, recovered cushions, cleaning, bilge paint, and a long way to go, we have learned our strengths and what we don't want to repeat again. :O) We ARE happy it floats.
Be wary, but don't necessarily dismiss it out of hand.
The low advertised price for the C30 might be due to simply needing a quick sale before a certain date as most marinas/boatyards around here charge either a per foot/per day summer yard rate or a whole season wet slip fee paid up front to provide an incentive to owners to $h!t or get off the pot. I know of one person who owed more in storage fees than the boat was worth so he simply gave the boat to the yard and walked away.
Eleven years ago I purchased my C25 for $2,650.00 from someone who needed quick cash. It also helped that it was in October when boats typically aren't selling up here in the north. When I first came across the listing, I was initially skeptical due to the low advertised price, thinking like most that something had to be wrong with it, but after seeing the listing for a week or two, I decided to check it out. Yeah, it was filthy and needed a bottom job, but hey, that could apply to a five year old boat as well so no big deal. What it did have was a newer outboard that the owner said only had two seasons on it (it looked and ran like it just came out of the shipping crate!), Harken roller furling with excellent sails, and virtually every upgrade installed (spreader brackets, stem fitting, newer balanced rudder, split adjustable backstay, additional Lewmar winches,...etc) and after a little sprucing up, the boat turned out to be a real peach. The oft quoted saying that a boat will cost you $10,000.00 no matter what you paid for it definitely wasn't so with my current boat or my first 25 footer.

I think your purchase was a calculated win-win.
you guys are killing me. the LONG TERM plan was to move to a 30. I haven't started saving yet even, and have moved to a cash only system, no loans, no more cc debt. Since I am still working out from under that stone, I have to compromise my debt goals or be patient......
