After lunch with my mommie....went straight to the marina and out for the afternoon. The weather was beautiful....low 80's...fair weather cumulus....winds "supposed" to be 10 mph, variable....
Variable was the key word here....nice and steady around 8 to 10 mph....making 4.5 kts or so using full main and my 110 genny....then a really strong puff comes out of nowhere and I'm heeling way over, splashing through the chop and holding myself in place propping my feet on the other cockpit seat edge....
And then....nothing.....becalmed.....my yachting ensign on the stern rail hanging limp....a butterfly flew by.....25 minutes just sitting.....waiting....
Then the winds came back, same as before....got about an hour in before being becalmed again for another 30 minutes......got in another 2 hours of sailing before my 3rd becalming....after 30 minutes of sitting, drifting....I took the sails down. Didn't have to point the boat or anything....just got up and dropped them.
All in all though, it was a good day!

When we left, we had just enough fuel to make it to San Juan. And now... we are out of fuel!
Wash out here in the 'burgh and still on the hard. If the weather cooperates we may launch Memorial Day weekend. Have to stop coming up with new projects!
Today was my second sail of the season (I launched yesterday) and it was a fairly nice day, with the usual steady winds. I'm rather spoiled in that the wind in my sailing venue blows like clockwork.
Would be nice to have ocean style winds...meaning, steady and strong....the way the lake sits and the terrain around it....we have alot of shadows and eddies out there on the water. I think this is why I'm having so much trouble trying to heave to.
I was out on Friday afternoon. Winds were fairly strong. At first, I had my Genoa furled halfway but then had it out full.
I was back out again on Saturday but in the morning, I wanted to take off my old sails and put my newer sails back on. I changed out the furling rig Genoa ad removed the old main but before I installed the new main, I wanted to re-adjust the sail snubber/protector located up near the spreaders. On my boat, I do not have those rubber spreader boots that protect the sail. Instead, I have plastic rollers that when close to the spreader, protect the sail from wearing against the spreader. Only thing is that for about a year or more, the wheel near the port side spreader had dropped down about 2 feet. I had bought a Mast mate a few years ago but have never used it. I brought it along with me and hooked it up to the mast groove using the jib halyard (not wanting to risk the main halyard if my weight would in anyway put ondue stress on the old blocks on top of the mast). So, I climbed up and readjusted the wheel protector. had a hard time using a screwdriver to tighten it - It was a bit loose which explains why it had dropped down 2'. Since I was only able to partially tighten the wheel to the shroud, as a double insurance preventing it from dropping down again, I used some sticky 3M duct tape on the shroud just below the wheel. Hopefully, the wheel will not come dwon again. Then I installed my new main. I then went home and in the late afternoon, my spouse and I went sailing - about 5-10mph wind. Had a good time. I may take off a day this week to go sailing. We have rain today and probably tomorrow. Thursday and Friday are looking like the best days. We'll see as those days draw closer.
