Just saw this, sounds similar to Spot, but with two-way capability and pairing to smart phones and other Bluetooth devices.

That is very way cool and cheap, too! At least for the hardware. I didn't notice the usage costs. Is it kinda like the smartphone people that practically give the phones away then make you mortgage your children to actually use them?

I think it's only $10/month, which is very cheap. Not so useful for us since we're always within cell phone range, but if you're going over the horizon, it sounds like a very good idea.

I would think that in your neck of the woods there would be dead spots in cell coverage. At least out among the islands, etc.???????

It depends heavily on carrier, but I hit dead spots all over the Puget Sound on T-Mobile and AT&T. Verizon may be better.
