I have found a holding tank that will fit in the area under the vberth and more importantly through the opening. It is 22gal you can see it here. I will turn it to the side.
I would like to install some stringers athwartships in this compartment to support the tank. I will put plywood over the 2x? stringers and screw it down so that I can remove it if I need to. I plan to bond the stringers to the hull and was wondering the best way to sand/remove the paint so that I will get a bond and also wondering best epoxy / fiberglass makeup to acheive a good bond. On the sanding I am looking for suggestion on what grit sandpaper and tool selection. Naturally I just want to remove paint and not any fiberglass.
My first inclination was to use some chopped stranded matt glassed to the stringer and the hull and then use thickened epoxy to do some fillets.
What you are seeing inside the bilge is gel coat. I'd use 50 grit sandpaper on a power block.
Our '89 had the holding tank mounted underneath the v-berth - perhaps Frank has some pix. Else I'm going to the boat tomorrow p.m., I'll take my camera.
West System has great products, great reference material and great phone support.
