My first and second Brummel Splice! I can barely tie knots, so this has me excited.

In 1/4" Amsteel.

I was missing a lot of tools, so I had to improvise.

And splices are stronger than knots - great job Jonathan.

Thanks! And I couldn't have done it without a McDonald's straw.

Nice work! I love doing marlinspike work. Brummel splices are on my list to learn. I can do three strand and double braid. The life lines on our Avon are single braid, and use a buried splice which is similar to a Brummel. I had one come completely out and couldn't find a fid big enough to fix it with. I took the cap off of an old Sharpy pen, cut off the clip and used it with a pusher stick out of my double braid kit to put it back together with. Worked out pretty well, and now I keep that cap with the rest of the splicing kit.

This is wraps around the becket of the first fiddle block for the internal outhaul. It took about 6 tries (lopping off about 6" of line at a time) before I succeeded.

Bought the $23 version swage tool from WM and the throat was too wide for the 1/16" sleeve. Bought the $19.97 version at HD and it was narrow enough to make two crimps. Does it meet any standards or specs? I highly doubt it - but I'm not crossing any oceans. Spent way, way more time sourcing the tool than doing the crimping.

Very nice splice. What tools did you buy, and from where? I'm shopping around and decide where to get a good complete set of fids and a pusher.

If a Splice looks 'Pretty' then it's probably a lot better than a shoddy looking job.

That looks real 'Pretty'!!!

Swage tool:

At the time I purchased my kit - these guys were the cheapest - but the current price looks high.

Maybe I bought the manual from Baileys - this price I remember - good book.

To be honest I sat in front of my computer and followed a YouTube video - play, pause, rewind, play, pause, rewind, play, pause, rewind, play pause, rewind

Have you used "the find" for searching for best pricing? I've had good success.

I've searched a little but some kits just seem incomplete, or too big for smaller rope. I'll keep searching.
