It would be helpful to know where you are located since they aren't so easy to ship.
I bought a Honda BF2 from my local Craigslist, there is a fairly constant source of them there for under $500. The Honda seemed to have better reviews and was easier to find used than the Tohatsu (my Tohatsu 9.8 works great).
The Suzuki 2.5 4-stroke is 29 lbs. compared to 41 for the Tohatsu. Friends have the Suzuki--it's a very nice little kicker. My Honda 2 is 27 lbs. and air cooled--a simpler system but noisier. If the Suzi had been available when I was in the market, I probably would've chosen it.
I have been reading about the Honda 2hp at 27# lite, little on the pricey side but I do like the weight. I live near Dayton, Ohio but sail out of Catwaba Island, Ohio. Thanks for the leads.
65: Used to stinkboat to Kelly's, we bought the SeaRay at MarineMax. What marina? We trailer launched out of Mazurak, then achored at the park beach, moored at my friends cabin.
That first motor looks interesting, and ALL had internal tanks. Nice finds elliot
The Honda 2 hp BF2 can be found used for around $350-$500 if you keep an eye on Craigslist. I have the older BF2A model without the clutch (so my motor has no neutral) and it works great but took me a little time to get used to. The light weight is a bonus. It won't push my 7' inflatable onto a plane, but it does get the job done, sip gas, and start easily.
I have no experience with the competition. In my research it made little sense to get the Tohatsu 2.5 since the 3.5 is the same size and weight and gives you about 30% more power.
I tested mine after purchase (and servicing) in a bucket at home:
You may be able to have a seller demonstrate it to you in the same way.
Remove the prop (or use a larger water container) and this probably isn't recommended with a larger motor like a 10hp.
I was hoping my 7' inflatable (smallest Zodiac Zoom, model 230) would fit on the front deck of the C-25, but it is a bit too big. I guess I have to drag it if I want to keep it inflated, that is kind a bummer. I don't think I'd want a smaller dinghy though, and at least this one inflates and deflates very quickly.
Well I bit the bullet and ordered a new 2.3 hp Honda, will have it this week. Thanks for all the help, just not comfortable with the used ones available.
