Well I had the boat dry hauled the other day, and installed the new cable. It was easy to install (with the aid of a coat hanger to feed the line) and the clasp Catalina provided fit my 2002 board. (unlike the horrid experience of Tray) The new cable is a very thin synthetic line, which didn't provide me with a strong sense of security, but I was assured by Catalina (both Frank Butler and Kent the engineer) that this was the final cure for the cable snapping issue. Keeping my fingers crossed. Side note, the first time my cable broke is was cut/perhaps pinched, this last time, the cable pulled right out of the ball sheave clasp. UGH!! Hope I won't have to pay another visit to the dry haul lift any time soon. Twice in one year is enough. Tropical Sleigh WB619 Sarasota FL
I only had that synthetic cable on for a week before I replaced with stainless steel as posted here before, and it had already started fraying. I have to raise my board everytime I come and go from my slip, and despite Kent's assurances I just wasn't comfortable with that material. I'd love to hear how it holds up. I've resigned myself to replacing my cable everytime I do a bottom job whether I need it or not to head off any future catastrophes.
